Conference - "Pour l’huamour de l’art" by Nicolas Liucci-Goutnikov, curator

Thurday 16 september

@ ING Art Center

! Only in french !

Conference organised in collaboration with Jeunesse & Arts Plastiques: "Pour l’huamour de l’art " by Nicolas Liucci-Goutnikov, head of the Kandinsky library.

Humour is a formidable weapon of subversion at the service of the avant-gardes and as such, a crucial component in modern and contemporary artistic revolutions. It has enabled numerous artists, like Marcel Duchamp and Salvador Dalí, to demystify art and propose new forms free from the weight of tradition. Through various thematic approaches, puns and hoaxes, parody and derision, Nicolas Liucci-Goutnikov, the curator of the “Hahaha. The Humour of art” exhibition seeks to restore laughter’s rightful place in the history of modernity. From the end of the 19th century to the modern day, from the Great Zwanz Exhibition to Francis Picabia, from Man Ray to Marcel Broodthaers, from René Magritte to John Baldessari, from the “Lolo” donkey to Jean Tinguely. Because as Duchamp himself used to say, “Nothing is serious enough to take seriously!”

19.00 - 20.00 : concert

The Karski string quartet play J. Haydn's “La Plaisanterie” (quartet No. 38 in E flat major, op. 33 No. 2

Haydn composed some 70 quartets. However, “La Plaisanterie” stands quite apart from the rest. Its highly original form, compared to his earlier compositions, features a totally unexpected Scherzo in place of the Minuet. But above all, it is the tone of the piece that seduces the listener: brio, humour and jubilant wit dominate the score. This is the humour of art! A joyful concert in the company of the Karski quartet, artists in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.

Classical concert by the Music Chapel Queen Elisabeth - "Did you say comic?"
